2012 Habitat for Humanity Paraguay -
In 2009 a crew of Troop 845 Scouts headed down to Central America for an extended stay over the summer. During their time there they built two houses in the jungles of Coban, hiked in the Mayan ruins of northern Guatemala, and spent some time diving off the coast of Belize. The trip was a great success and inspired the next generation to head South one summer and again team up with Habitat.
This summer of 2012 a crew of T845 Scouts is again teaming up with Habitat for Humanity International and in late June we will be heading to the remote regions of Paraguay where we will spend two weeks building two houses high in the arid and chilly Andes Mountains.
As is custom, we can't travel to an exotic place and not get into some epic adventuring. So after we finish up our houses and bid our Paraguayan hosts farewell we're heading to the deep south of the continent and into Patagonia. We'll spend a couple weeks down in the dark and chilly backcountry of the famed Patagonia and while we're there we'll take a week to trek the 'W' route in Torres del Paine National Park. This hike consistently ranks in the top 5 in the world so needless to say we're excited to check it out. As a side note, we can't find any record of a Scout troop hiking in Torres del Paine, let alone in their winter, oh well, we'll tell you how it goes.
