Habitat for Humanity - Guatemala 2009Welcome to Boy Scout Troop 845 and to an exciting year of adventure as the 2009-2010 season gets underway. T845 is sponsored by Carrboro United Methodist Church and has been serving boys and young men in the Carrboro and Chapel Hill areas for the past 50 years.
T845 prides itself on being one of the most active troops in the district. Traditional scouting values as well as outdoor and leadership skills are taught through our weekly meetings, monthly outings, or our exhaustive summer program. Whether you are a new Scout looking to build your first year skills or an older scout looking for the highest level of adventure scouting has to offer, Troop 845 has a program for you.
Take a look around the site to see what we've been up to and give us a call or an email to ask about signing up. We meet every Tuesday night at 7pm at Carrboro United Methodist Church. Be sure to check out some videos from our more epic adventures on our newly added Video Page, or a pretty extensive photo collection of recent adventures on our Photos Page.
TROOP 845 NEWS
Chalk another summer up in the epic category for 2009 now that everyone is heading back to class. As is always the case T845 sent crews to two summer camps where we racked up a bunch of merit badges and rank. Our dozen new scouts really nailed their first year scout skills and are ready for some adventuresome weekend trips that are coming up this year.
Troop 845 also sent 14 people down to Guatemala for the summer to build two houses for Habitat for Humanity. Check out the newly posted video on our Video Page. We spent some time in the village of Coban where we mixed concrete by hand, hacked blocks in half with machetes, and wheeled tons of gravel uphill in the process of building houses for two local Guatemalan families. For a little RnR afterwards we headed up north where we hiked 55 miles in the ancient Mayan ruins of Mirador and later headed to the beaches of Belize for some snorkeling. We all returned a bit suntanned, a bit lighter from some battles with Montezuma's revenge, and much wiser from the amazing experience.
THIS YEAR AT TROOP 845
As always, T845 has an epic program planned out for the 2009-2010 school year. Our trips include: wakeboarding in SC, mountain biking in Virginia, some backpacking on the AT, our legendary capture the flag game, Patrol Competitions, Fort Picket Obstacle course, wilderness survival, an island beach trip, and a couple of district camporee's mixed in there as well.
The summer of 2010 promises to live up to the bar set by previous years. We will again send scouts to two different summer camps. There are talks of a crew going to Philmont, some Scouts heading to the World Jamboree, and possibly a crew riding bikes across the United States yet again.
For more info on our upcoming program, stop into a meeting or send us and email.
